How to Strengthen Nail Extensions with Powder Perfection
Here’s a tip! Create extreme length n’ strength with a dip powder-enforced nail extension.
Step by Step
Step
Prep those nails! Follow OPI Salon Pro Service Prep steps prior to salon service application. Clean, prepped nails will ensure proper adhesion and wear of your OPI services.
Step
Size the tips to each nail ensuring they cover the natural nail from one side to the other.
Step
Apply a small amount of Powder Perfection Base Coat to the contact area of the nail tip.
Step
Line the tip up to the natural nail, holding it at a 45-degree angle. If the tip has a stop point, guide the stop point up to the free edge of the nail and rock the tip up to meet the surface of the nail and hold for 3-5 seconds allowing the adhesive to set. Repeat on remaining nails.
Step
Trim if desired. Use a 180-grit file to shape the nail tip to desired shape. Repeat on all nails.
Step
Blend the tip to the natural nail with a 180-grit file, followed by a 100/180-grit buffer to further smooth and refine the tip. Optional: Use an e file with a medium carbide bit at medium speed in place of hand files if desired. Repeat on all nails.
Step
Remove any dust from the nails with a cosmetic brush. Cleanse the natural nail with a nail wipe saturated with N.A.S. 99 Cleansing Solution.
Step
Apply a coat of Bond Aid pH Balancing Agent to the natural nail.
Step
Pro Tip: For the remaining steps work on one hand at a time. This will ensure the first hand is set and ready to file after the second hand is finished.
Step
Apply a thin line of Base Coat across the center of the nail where the tip and the nail meet leaving the sides bare. Immediately pour Clear Color Set Powder over the nail. Lightly brush away excess powder with a cosmetic brush. Repeat on the remaining fingers of the first hand.
Step
Apply a thin coat of Base Coat to the center of the nail to reinforce the strength and begin creating an apex. Immediately pour Clear Color Set Powder over the nail. Lightly brush away the excess powder with a cosmetic brush. Repeat on the remaining fingers of the first hand.
Step
Apply a thin coat of Base Coat to a slightly larger section of the center of the nail to reinforce the strength and create the apex. Immediately pour Clear Color Set Powder over the nail. Lightly brush away the excess powder with a cosmetic brush. Repeat on remaining fingers of the first hand.
Step
Apply a thin coat of Base Coat to the entire nail leaving a larger free margin around the perimeter of the nail. Immediately pour Clear Color Set Powder over the nail. Lightly brush away the excess powder with a cosmetic brush. Repeat on remaining fingers of the first hand.
Step
Pro Tip: If finishing with GelColor continue smoothing with a 100/180-grit buffer and cleanse nails with a nail wipe saturated with N.A.S. 99 before following OPI GelColor Application Step-by-Steps.
Step
Pro Tip: If applying GelColor over your Powder Perfection enhancement service DO NOT leave a larger free margin. Apply product up to the cuticle line leaving a very small free margin.
Step
Apply a generous coat of Activator to the surface of the nail and along the extension edge of the nail. Allow product to set for 4 minutes before finishing filing.
Step
Shape and refine the surface of nails with a 180-grit file or an E-file with a medium carbide bit at a medium speed. Brush away dust with a cosmetic brush. Follow with OPI Powder Perfection Application Step-by-Steps to apply your shade of choice.
Step
Repeat steps 9-14 on the remaining hand.
