OPI: How long have you been a nail tech?

Loretta: 20 years.

OPI: What is the best piece of advice you have been given in your career?

Loretta: When I started my nail career I always struggled with nail art and never thought my nail art was creative or good enough. I was highly critical of myself and my work, I suffered with absolute fear every time a new client would book in for a nail treatment with nail art. After speaking to other nail techs I realised I wasn't the only person that felt like this! I was given the advice to apply all the nail art designs I enjoyed doing and felt confident doing and putting them on a nail pallet to showcase to my clients. This helped me to managed the clients designs & adapt the techniques I could do well to create unique and individual designs for my clients that i felt positive about. Having the nail pops also helped me to charge more for the nail art as each pallet was clearly marked with a price per nail. This was a confidence builder for me personally and also helped me to grow and develop my nail businesses & my nail art skills. Now many years later I feel confident doing most nail art designs and have recently introduced a tier system for the nail art categories in my salon.

OPI: What is the worst piece of advice you have been given?

Loretta: I haven't been given bad advice, but I once heard terrible advice from a nail tech to a beginner. Once you've passed your course no further education will be needed!!! I couldn't disagree more! Education and continual training is an absolute must in this industry. Techniques change, new products get introduced. If your a new nail tech or been a nail tech for 10 years, learning new skills or bettering your skills will never go out of fashion.

OPI: What is your ultimate nail hack?

Loretta: Be honest to your clients, know your treatments, know your products. Always give your recommendations. Don't assume your clients know what they are booking in for. Honest recommendations will gain trust, help with client retention & will give you credibility. It will save you time in the future not having to redo nail treatments because the product wasn't correct for your client. Don't be scared of being honest, your client will appreciate it.

shannice

OPI: How long have you been a nail tech?

Shannice: 8 years.

OPI: What is the best piece of advice you have been given in your career?

Shannice: Your age is NOT a reflection of your skill but you must be able to learn from constructive criticism.

shannice-2

OPI: What is the worst piece of advice you have been given?

Shannice: To use cheaper products, Profit over product. It’s better to have 2 great quality products then 10 cheaper. I built my kit slowly and I am proud of it. My clients know and can trust I will only use the best.

OPI: What is your ultimate nail hack?

Shannice: Customer journey is key. Looking back especially at the beginning my work was not the best (perfectionist problems) but listening to clients, remembering the little things about them and tailoring appointments to suit their needs is why they came back 💖
